Business Ownership:
In Kent county 56.4% of all businesses are owned by men as compared to 53.5% for the state of Michigan. Women owned firms are 33.6% of all firms in Kent county as compared to 36.8% statewide - thus we find that there are actually fewer women owned firms in the county as compared to the state. The same is true of minority business ownership in Kent county - only 14.8% of all the firms in Kent county are owned by minorities as compared to 19.1% statewide. Finally when we look at the retail sales per capita, we find that for Kent county this number was $14,156 representing a 17.3% increase over the retail sales per capital for the state of Michigan.
