The association has a proud rich history and tradition, but in today's fast paced world successful organizations focus on the future. Founded in 1926, the original purpose of the Iowa Chapter NECA was to improve the standards of service provided by electrical contractors to the public, assist electrical contractors in dealings with others in the industry, as well as educate electrical contractors and promote the general welfare of its members. Today, the Iowa Chapter NECA is home to the best electrical contractors in Iowa and fills a unique role in the electrical contracting industry by representing its member contractors in the collective bargaining process. Their membership comprises several large multi-employer groups as well as many smaller groups in various cities throughout the state of Iowa.

The Independent Electrical Contractors Association of Kentucky and Southern Indiana is a local chapter of the National IEC. The sixty-two electrical contractor members in the local chapter share common goals with the more than 3,500 IEC members across the country. From Scottsburg, Corydon, and New Albany in Indiana, to Shelbyville, Elizabethtown, Bardstown, and Louisville in Kentucky, local IEC member contractors represent a work force of over 2,200. With an emphasis on training, safety, and professional development, the merit-shop philosophy flourishes in the Kentuckian area where IEC members perform over 85% of all electrical construction.
