Formed in 1927, the IEC Texas Gulf Coast is a dynamic organization of electrical professionals whose mission is to promote the success of all electrical contractors preferring to remain independent or open shop. Representing 165 electrical contractors and over 2000 journeyman electricians, associates and engineers, the IEC has become the quality symbol for the electrical industry in the Houston area. The association has been instrumental in interacting with local, state and national officials on legislation that has improved the industry while at the same time making the workplace environment safer.

The association serves the industry by providing a wide range of in-depth management and technical services that a single contractor would find beyond its financial capabilities. The Association represents its members in contract negotiations and contract administration with IBEW Locals 20 (Dallas/Fort Worth), 324 (Longview), and 1151 (Tyler). The Chapter assists its members in implementing National Agreements. It actively works to help control the cost of fringe benefits. It collects and disseminates current information on labor trends and labor litigation. All of the Chapter labor contracts have binding arbitration clauses, utilizing the services of the Council on Industrial Relations. This binding arbitration prevents strikes, lockouts or work stoppages.

The Southeast Texas Chapter of NECA was established in 1939 for the purpose of providing members an effective agency through which to express their collective voice on issues effecting the construction industry. Today the Chapter continues to represent qualified, reliable, and experienced electrical contractors in Corpus Christi, Beaumont, Galveston, Houston, Port Arthur and the Rio Grande Valley. Within these areas, the Chapter maintains relationships with the following Local Unions of the IBEW: 278, 2286, 479, 527, 716 and 1015.
